Being yourself

Being yourself

This month we’re looking at fidelity… in terms of being yourself. We’ve all heard the saying ‘To Thine Own Self Be True’ which is perhaps a bit cliché. It can mean different things to different people, however most of us understand it to mean be authentic. But how can you be authentic when you feel lost or you feel that something is missing? Your life may have been turned upside down and you have no idea who you are or what you want to do.

It can feel daunting. You can start by becoming self aware… becoming aware of your thoughts, your feelings, your values and beliefs, your frustrations, what matters to you, your desires, your strengths and abilities…

It’s about seeing who you think you are, then seeing what blocks you from being yourself, and then going on to see who you are beyond the illusion that you don’t have what it takes.

Awareness gives you choice …the choice to become more of who you are, to live by choice… to choose how you feel, how you talk to yourself, how you show up.

Learning to be yourself might mean … learning to say ‘no’, creating boundaries… speaking up….being vulnerable and sharing your feelings… adjusting your attitude. It does mean being open and honest with yourself, and sometimes you might not like what you see. That’s ok, you’re a work in progress!

It’s easy to feel alone as you go on this exploration – you can make friends with your heart. Your heart will always tell you that you are connected and never alone. The way to being yourself is through your heart, listening and trusting your guidance. When you listen to your inner voice, you just know you will come through whatever challenge you face.

The joy of being yourself. At the end of the day, you feel inspired, alive …nothing to prove…simply happy to share who you are. Some people like you, some people don’t, and you’re ok with that. When you are true to yourself, you flourish!
